Our Stories

Meet the Faces Behind Our Mission

FACIA has witnessed countless heart-wrenching stories of resilience and hope. We've rescued individuals from the streets and are guiding them through rehabilitation. These powerful testimonies demonstrate our unwavering passion for supporting the mentally challenged. Yet, they also represent hundreds of untold stories - individuals still suffering in silence, neglected and abandoned in inhumane conditions. Their struggles are a stark reminder of the urgent need for our collective action.

For 17 years, Manto Emile Gislain Pascalin, a mother and wife from Mbouda, Cameroon, lived on the streets of Bamenda

From Streets to Hope: Manto Emile Gislain Pascalin's Story

Mental health issues had taken over her life, leaving her family unable to care for her.

A Life of Struggle

Known as "La Mere," she was a familiar figure in Bamenda, but not for positive reasons. Her actions were violent, words coarse, and body naked. The local population ridiculed and provoked her.

Rescue and Rehabilitation

In 2021, Pastor Leinyuy Leonard and Faith and Charity Integrated Association (FACIA) rescued Manto from the streets. They provided:

Sanitary and healthcare, Shelter, Rehabilitation

Through patience and care, Pastor Leinyuy helped Manto:

Regain personal hygiene habits, Learn simple tasks, Socialize, Read and write.

Progress and Challenges

Manto still faces setbacks, occasionally leaving home to sleep on the streets. However, she: Recognizes people, Reads and writes, Calls her name, Performs daily tasks

She is sheltered, provided health and scocial care, provided food and clothing as her rehabilitation process is ongoing.
